The Book of Will ~ Play Reading with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's Emerging Professional Residents
Join us on Monday, February 24, 2020 for a Play Reading with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's Emerging Professional Residents of The Book of Will, written by Lauren Gunderson.
After the death of their friend and mentor William Shakespeare, two of the last surviving actors from Shakespeare's original theater troupe, The King's Men, do everything possible to collect and publish in a single bound volume many of his plays. Based on truth, Ms. Gunderson's terrific comedy tells their story in a humorous, entertaining and irreverent fashion.
Masterpieces such as "Hamlet" and "Romeo and Juliet" had been stolen and expurgated, while great dramas such as "Antony and Cleopatra" and "As You Like It" needed to be pieced together from prompt scripts and actors' side notes. Without the labor done by these two actors and others to create what we know today as"The First Folio", we would have lost many of Shakespeare's works. It's a grand feat to be sure - especially for actors who know nothing about binding books. They'll have to beg, borrow and band together to get this done. It's a theatrical race to save a legacy.
Mentoring the next generation of artists was a role the Lunts valued and continues to be a cornerstone of the programs Ten Chimneys Foundation nurtures, including our longstanding collaboration with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater as we present Play Readings at Ten Chimneys. We invite guests to join us in our beautiful Lunt-Fontanne Program Center as these contemporary protégés offer book-in-hand readings of celebrated plays.
This delightful Play Reading will be held in Ten Chimneys' Program Center on February 24th at 6:00 pm. The cost is $20 per person. Please ring 262-068-4110 for your reservations.
